Organic Farming: Not Just a Farming Practice, but a Complete Way of Life

21st January, 2026

Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences, under the aegis of Malwanchal University, organized an expert lecture on “Soil Health and Biofertilizers” as part of its continuous efforts toward academic excellence and career-oriented learning for students. The session was conducted to enhance students’ understanding of sustainable agriculture and emerging opportunities in the agricultural sector. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. M. K. Rawat, Head – NAFED, Indore, who shared valuable insights on soil health, balanced nutrient management, the role of biofertilizers, and their practical application in sustainable farming systems. He explained that healthy soil is the foundation of productive agriculture, contributing not only to higher crop yields but also to environmental conservation and improved farmers’ income.

Dr. Rawat emphasized that organic farming is not merely a method of cultivation, but a comprehensive lifestyle that protects human health while restoring the natural vitality of soil. He highlighted the harmful impact of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which has led to the degradation of soil fertility, structure, and beneficial microbial life. He explained that soil rich in organic carbon has better water-holding capacity and provides essential nutrients to crops in a natural manner. Biofertilizers, he noted, play a crucial role in revitalizing soil health, reducing chemical dependency, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability. He stressed that maintaining soil health is essential not only for present agricultural needs but also for safeguarding fertile land for future generations.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor of Malwanchal University, Dr. Sanjeev Narang, stated that the objective of such programs is to motivate students to “understand soil deeply and shape progressive careers in agriculture.” Additional Director of Agriculture, Dr. Rajendra Singh, along with the institute’s management and faculty members, highlighted the importance of organizing such academic events for the holistic development of students. Information about the Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences was shared by Dr. Shivam Kumar Verma, Dr. Ajay Kumar Gaur, Dr. Rohit Kumar, and Dr. Akash. Field Exposure Visit to Pratham Organic Centre by Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences

13th November, 2025

The Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences organized an enriching educational tour for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students of all semesters to the Pratham Organic Centre, Simrol, Indore. A total of 65 students, accompanied by 04 faculty members, participated in this immersive learning experience. The visit was led by Additional Director Agriculture, Dr. Rajendra Singh, along with the teaching faculty Dr. Shivam Kumar Verma, Dr. Rohit Kumar, and Mr. Ajay Kumar Gour. The objective of the tour was to provide students with first-hand exposure to sustainable agricultural practices and to deepen their understanding of organic farming systems widely adopted across ecologically conscious farming communities.

During the visit, students explored various components of organic farming, including soil health management, nutrient recycling, organic input preparation, and natural methods of pest and disease control. Experts at the Pratham Organic Centre highlighted the significance of using compost, green manure, crop rotations, biofertilizers, and biological pest management techniques to maintain long-term soil fertility and promote agro ecological balance. Students also observed practical demonstrations of organic input production and interacted with resource persons to understand the real-world challenges and opportunities associated with organic cultivation. This hands-on learning experience enabled them to appreciate the importance of biodiversity conservation, ecological harmony, and sustainable resource utilization in modern agriculture.

The educational tour emphasized that organic farming is more than just an alternative to conventional agriculture—it is a holistic philosophy that aligns agricultural practices with nature’s own processes. By avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and growth hormones, organic farming ensures the production of safe, nutritious, and environmentally responsible food. The visit strengthened students’ knowledge of sustainable farming models and inspired them to adopt eco-friendly agricultural practices in their future careers. The Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences remains committed to providing experiential learning opportunities that nurture responsible agricultural professionals equipped to promote sustainable and resilient farming systems for a better future.
