Basant Panchami Celebration at Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences

The Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences celebrated Basant Panchami on 23rd January 2026 with great devotion and enthusiasm, marking the arrival of the spring season. The festival, dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, music, and arts, was organized under the guidance of Additional Director Agriculture Dr. Rajendra Singh and teaching staff including Dr. Shivam Kumar Verma (HOD), Dr. Ajay Kumar Gour, and Dr. Rohit Kumar. The celebration began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and floral offerings at the idol of Goddess Saraswati, invoking blessings for knowledge, prosperity, and success. Students and faculty members actively participated in the rituals, reflecting a strong sense of devotion and cultural spirit within the department.

The event showcased a vibrant display of talent and learning. Students presented Saraswati Vandana, speeches, poems, and cultural performances, which highlighted their creativity and respect for tradition. The campus was adorned with yellow flowers and traditional decorations, symbolizing positivity, growth, and the energy of the spring season. The Head of the Department addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of Basant Panchami in promoting education, discipline, and cultural values among students. The celebration encouraged students to embrace learning with dedication, responsibility, and a sense of cultural pride.

The programme concluded with inspiring messages from faculty members, motivating students to pursue knowledge with sincerity and integrity. Expert Guest Lecture on Soil Health & Bio-Fertilizers at Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Indore

The Index Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Malwanchal University, Indore successfully organized an Expert Guest Lecture on “Soil Health & Bio-Fertilizers” on 20 January 2026 with the objective of enhancing students’ academic and practical understanding of sustainable agricultural practices. The programme was graced by Dr. M. K. Rawat, Head – NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.), as the distinguished resource person. The event witnessed active participation from 125 students, along with 06 staff members and 10 dignitaries, reflecting the institute’s continuous efforts to promote quality education and industry–academia interaction in the field of agriculture.

During the lecture, Dr. M. K. Rawat delivered an insightful presentation emphasizing the importance of soil health as the foundation of sustainable and profitable agriculture. He explained various indicators of soil health such as soil structure, nutrient balance, organic carbon content, and microbial activity. Dr. Rawat highlighted the significance of regular soil testing and scientific nutrient management for maintaining soil fertility and improving crop productivity. He also discussed how healthy soil plays a vital role in ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability, food security, and environmental protection, encouraging students to adopt scientific and sustainable approaches in modern farming practices.

Dr. Rawat further elaborated on the role of bio-fertilizers in improving soil fertility and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. He explained the benefits of beneficial microorganisms such as Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB), and Mycorrhiza in enhancing nutrient availability, soil biological activity, and crop growth. He also shared valuable insights into NAFED’s initiatives focused on promoting sustainable agriculture, balanced fertilizer use, and farmer welfare. Practical guidance on application methods, crop suitability, and integration of bio-fertilizers with organic and integrated farming systems was provided. The lecture was interactive and concluded with a strong message encouraging students to adopt eco-friendly and soil-centric farming practices for sustainable agricultural development.
